Last chance: Run for a seat on the Faculty Council!

Hello everyone,

The university elections will take place on November 24 and 25. You still have until Wednesday (November 4, 2026) at 4:00 p.m. to run for office (submit your candidacy).

We can and should (!) fill our two seats, especially on the Faculty Council for Mathematics and Computer Science, and it would be a real shame if there were no student representatives on the Faculty Council. Then all decisions at the faculty would be made without a student perspective. 🙁

This would also affect your degree programs, exams, and theses.

How do I get on the Faculty Council?

The easiest way is to stop by the StuRa office in the Neue Mensa (on the side facing Winklerstraße) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. by tomorrow (Tuesday, November 3), where you can fill out the nomination form and put yourself up for election.

On Wednesday (November 4), you can still submit the nomination form between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Akademiestraße 6, ground floor, Room 08.

The form is available at the StuRa office or via this link:

Why should I go there?

As students on the Faculty Council, we can help make decisions on important matters (see below), and professors often ask for our opinions on academic issues.

You’ll get to know the professors a little better and also hear their perspectives on university operations—which can sometimes be quite interesting ;D

The time commitment is really minimal, with just one meeting per month during the lecture period, and you’ll receive one semester of committee credit for it. The upcoming term covers the 2027 summer semester and the 2027/28 winter semester (i.e., 1 year).

Who makes up the Faculty Council, and what does it do?

The Faculty Council consists mainly of university faculty members, professors, a few other staff members, and—in our case—two student representatives. These two also have voting rights.

The Faculty Council elects the dean and makes decisions regarding research and teaching, particularly everything related to the study and examination regulations (primarily passing resolutions rather than drafting them). For example, establishing and launching degree programs, structuring degree programs with specializations, required and elective modules, as well as the prerequisites for their exams, etc.

If you have any questions or if you’ve nominated yourself, feel free to email fsr1@stura.tu-freiberg.de

Best regards,

Your FSR

P.S.: In the upcoming university elections, student representatives will be elected to the Senate, the Extended Senate, and the Faculty Councils. You only have until 4:00 p.m. on November 4, 2026, to run for office in all three bodies!
